Tread bands, projections, and surfaces.-A rubber or other tread ring 4, having an inner face of V-section, engages in a groove in a pneumatic cushion 3 of less width than the ring. The base of the groove is made inextensible, so that the pressure of the cushion on the ring is chiefly at the sides 7. An insulating-strip 8 of asbestos cloth or the like is placed between the cushion and the ring, so as to be wholly covered thereby. The inner face of the ring may be provided with ribs, which bed in the inflated cushion, so as to prevent creeping.
