Abstract

21,626. Belknap, E. D., and Belknap, F. D. Sept. 30. Stencils.-Stencil sheets or cards of the kind prepared from paper treated with glycerine and gelatine are moistened prior to having designs formed in them by an ordinary typewriter, and are preferably treated with formaldehyde or an alkaline bichromate or with both. The paper is first soaked in a warm solution containing gelatine and glycerine, preferably with the addition of borax and ammonia to facilitate the subsequent moistening of the sheet prior to impressing the design. The coated paper is dried and is then dipped in a cold solution of glycerine, to which may be added formaldehyde, or an alkaline bichromate, or both. The surplus material is scraped off and the stencil sheet dried. The sheet so prepared is moistened with a brush &c. before being treated in the typewriter. The stencil when complete may be mounted in a waterproof frame.
