Shuttles are threaded by drawing the end of the weft over a guide-pin c and down a slot b into a spiral eye a, which is arranged with its inner edge in the centre line of the shuttle and is made of metal, pot, &c., the action of pulling-off weft from the spool causing the weft to pass round and under the end of the pin c. The outer end of the eye a lies flush with the outside of the shuttle, and the eye is cut away at d to facilitate threading.
