Cash registers with operating-means; printing totals.-Relates to improvements in the item and total-printing and interlocking mechanisms of cash registers. The machine is of the type described in Specification 9400/97, and has total-printing wheels 73, Fig. 2, set by nested sleeves and mounted in front of the usual itemprinting sectors. The record-strip 49 is led over a platen roller 52 mounted in slots 104 on a projection from a sliding frame 54 operated by a cam as in the before-mentioned Specification The platen roller 52 is normally too low to take an impression, but is thrown up by slotted levers 99 which are moved to position by link-work 93 operated by a hand-lever 91. The total type - wheels are inked by a roller 76 spring-mounted on a swinging frame 79 operated by a pin 81 engaging a slot in a sliding frame 83, which is actuated by a pin 89 on the rocking inking-frame of the item type-segments. The take-up roll 53 is actuated normally by a ratchet and pawl from a pinion 130 carried by the sliding frame over a rack 132; extra feed, however, is given to the strip for total-printing by the lever 93 carrying a pin 141, which works in a slot of the rack frame 133, so as to couple the rack frame with a lever 144 rocked by an arm 126, Fig. 5, on the main shaft 21. By this means the frame 133 and rack 132 are thrust upwards so as to give extra rotation to the pinion 130. A pin 105 on the platen lever 99 is engaged when in active position by holding projections 106, 206 on a lever 108 so that the platen 52 is correctly maintained in action during the operation of the machine. Keyboards ; interlocking.-In order to unlock the main crank when a total is to be printed, a projection 119 is provided on the lever 93 to engage the plate 117 which is raised usually by the special keys to rock the lever 5 to free the machine. The detent plate 115 of the special keys also has a notch to lock the lever 93 depressed, and has a projection 121 to be engaged for release by a slide 124 operated by a cam.
