Aug. 29 Guiding vertical play; equalizing load on springs.-In a wheel suspension for cycles and other vehicles wherein each end of the spindle is rotatably carried in a sliding block a which is capable of movement in guides under the action of one or more springs e abutting upon one or more horizontal faces of the block, each end of the spindle is provided with an arm keyed thereon, the end of the arm remote from the spindle being capable of longitudinal displacement under the action of a guide fixed to the vehicle frame. As shown in Fig. 1, the arm c carries a pin c<1>, on which is loosely mounted a pinion k engaging a rack g fixed on the frame; the pinion is kept in contact with the rack as by the engagement of the pin with a slot c<2>. The arm may, however, carry a slide to work in a guide fixed on the frame, or the arm may itself slide through a guide-block pivoted upon the frame, or be slotted to engage a fixed pin.
