Abstract

19,228. Levy, G. Aug. 28. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Sewing-machines; needles, driving; lockstitching by shuttles.-The needle-bar and the shuttle are directly actuated by electro-magnets or solenoids. The needle-bar 6 is carried by the armature 7 of a solenoid 8, a returning spring being provided. The shuttle 12 is oscillated by the armature 17 of a double-coil solenoid 18 through the medium of a rack 16 and pinion 15 on the shuttle spindle 13. The timing of the operations is obtained by providing contacts 29, 30 in the needle-bar and shuttle circuits 36, 38 respectively, and contact-makers 27, 28 on the armature 17. The pin 27 moves with the armature 17, but adjustable stops 32, 33 provide the necessary lost-motion between the pin 28 and the armature. The shuttle may be actuated by a lever connexion with the armature 17. Feed is effected by rotary wheels driven by gearing 23 which is connected with the spindle 13 by ratchet gearing 24.
