Abstract

18,978. Robinson, C. J. A. Aug. 24. Ball and like mills.-In apparatus for pulverizing coal &c., consisting of a rotary drum A, Fig. 1, containing one or more loose rollers B free to travel on the lower portion of the interior of the drum, the rollers are built up of a number of disks or short rollers b<1> ... b<7> arranged side by side upon a loose cylindrical bar B', the openings b<8> in the disks or rollers being much larger than the bar so that the disks can move independently and a grinding action take place between them. The openings in the end disks b<1>, b<7> do not extend completely through them. A blast of air, preferably heated, is introduced through the feedtrunnion a', and carries the fine powder away through the opposite trunnion a<3> to a suitable receptacle. When more than one roller is employed, the cylindrical bars B<1>, Fig. 4, are connected together by distance-pieces C having extensions C<Î> carrying a rod c with a balance weight c<1>.
