Hulling; polishing.-Relates to the invention described in Specification 9011/00, and comprises means for regulating the air currents that remove the coffee hulls, and means for cooling .the machine. In the suction pipe 18, Fig. I, which removes the lighter waste from the coffee delivered through the outlet 16 and door 17, is arranged a door 25. A similar door 26 is placed in the pipe 23, which receives the material from the outlet 20 of the second cylinder 3. These doors are connected together and to a valve 28, which opens as the doors 25, 26 are closed by excessive draught acting upon them. Air is thus admitted and the complete closing of the doors prevented. The cylinders 2, 3, which are divided horizontally, are fitted with linings also made in halves and leaving a jacketing space through which air is drawn from apertures 38, 38<1> to suction pipes 39, 39<1>. The linings are spirally ribbed and are eccentric at the outlet end. The drums 7, 8 on the shaft are fitted with renewable sleeves formed with ribs partly spiral and partly straight, and made in halves. The adjacent edges have flanges 12, Fig. III, over which fits a clamp 11 secured by screws 13. Ports 33 are formed in the end of the drum 8 to admit air for cooling to the space between the sleeve and the drum. Thence the air passes into the interior of the drum and out by the passage 34 to the pipe 18. A renewable ring 14 to take the wear is attached to the end of the casing. Baffles 35, 36 and a protector 40 prevent the coffee or hulls from entering the air-tubes.
