(01. 34'63) The invention relates to improvements in rotary kilns of the type commonly used for producing cement blinkcr, the present invention constituting an improvement on the constructions of kilns disclosed in my prior Patents No. 2,132,709, granted me October 11, 1938, for R- tary kiln, and No. 2,132,710, granted me October 11, 1938, for Apparatus for producing cement clinker.
The primary object of the present invention is the provision of an improved means for introducing air into such kilns;
Another object of the invention is the provision of a kiln of the character indicated so constructed and arranged as to occupy less lateral and vertical space.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. v
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which Fig. 1 is anend view, with portions broken away, disclosing a rotary kiln embodying the invention;

A firing hood 3! is arranged as shown adjacent the wind box I4 and is mounted upon wheels 32 so as to be capable of yielding and adjustment to accommodate expansions of the kiln.
A suitable fuel supply pipe 33 extends centrally through the firing hood SI and into the kiln III as indicated and whereby fuel is supplied to the kiln in the usual way.
A tubular discharge member 34 having a suitable removable lining as indicated is provided for the kiln and extends centrally through the wind box into the firing hood and discharges intreated in the usual way.
By these means air under pressure may be supplied to the chamber l I while rotating in a siniple and eflicient manner and -without the employto a passageway 35 from which it is removed and ment of circumferential projections or a wind box surrounding the same as were employed in the constructions of mysaid prior patents, and whereby the vertical and lateral dimensions of the kiln are materially decreased without impairing its capacity and complicated and expensive connections with the kiln avoided. Owing to the fact that tubular discharge 34 extends entirely through the wind box, the clinker fromthe kiln is prevented from falling upon and working into box and kiln and the consequent wear thereon thus prevented. The specific construction disclosed is a simple and effective one for the purpose.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred forms of construction for carying my invention into effect, these are capable of variation and modification without departing from the' spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish details disclosed but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A kiln comprising a rotary chamber; a nonrotating wind box seating against the end of said chamber, said chamber and wind box being provided with cooperatingv elements permitting the passage of. air from the box into the chamber, there being a central opening extending through said wind box; means for supplying air under pressure to said wind box; and a tubular dis-V charge for said chamber extending centrally from the adjacent end of said chamber and passing freely through the opening in said wind box.
