Be it known that l, OLAF E Mnciiivsiirn a citizen ofthe United States,-`residiiig in State of New .lersey, have vinvented certain new andusetul improvements in Tubedl/lills, of which 'the reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which torni a art hereof. y This invention relates to tube mills which are divided transversely to form two cham-- bers for the reception of grinding bodies ot different-.kinds flint pebbles being usually chamber at the feeding end oi lie.A mill and/mall grinding bodies in the chamber at vthel discharge end of the mill. The partition which vseparates the chambers is usually slotted or otherwise perforated so as to permit the material which has been reduced in the chamber With the flint pebbles to pass through the same into the other chamber, the slots ,or other perforations being so narrow or small as to prevent the smaller griiidino' bodies roiiipassing back ward through t e saine into vthe first chamber.

In accordance with the invention theinill is provided with an imperforate partition between the chambers and circumferential channels are rovided such that the passage of the reduce material from the first chamber to the second is permitted While the passage of the smaller giindin bodies. from the second chamber back to t e first is prevented. f

The tube mill to which the invention is applied may be of any usual or suitable construction and is shown in the several. figures of the drawings as comprising cylindrical nietal shell a provided with trunnions o, and suitable wear resisting lining c, and grated discharge openings d for the discharge of the pulver-ized material. The material to be pulverized is fed to the mill through convenient openings c which may be formed in the truiinions h and in which may be suitable feed mechanism here illustrated as a screw and the grinding bodies are introduced into the chambers f and g through any suitable door as usual in mills of this description. ./"it a suitable point within the mill is secured in any suitable manner an imperforate pai'- tition h, preferably nearer the discharge end than the feed end, so that the chamber f, in which are placed the flint pebbles, is considerably larger than the chamber g in which are placed the smaller grinding bodies. ln the wall of the cylinder, in the ggg to prevent-.the return of the sni'eller ,grinding bodies from the second chamber to the'`- vfor each inlet opening Each such @hann nel easing is carried from the openings i to the openingy 7u in direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the cylinder.
