Abstract

Operating doors by chain arrangements.-The underneath doors of railway wagons are held in the closed position by means of a cranked rocking bar or by tappets upon a rock-shaft, the bar or tappets being yieldingly held in the locking position by flat springs, the free ends of which bear against the bar or tappets. In a modification, the springs support the door, and the bar or tappets operate to release them. To enable the doors to be closed from within the wagon, a chain is attached to the inner side of the door and to the side or bottom of the inside of the wagon. The cranked bar g is of the known type operated by an integral handle j and engaging the edge of the door c or the ends of the hinge bars f. Springs or a single spring m are secured to the wagon frame and bear against the bar g. By pulling the chain n, the bar g is forced outwards by the hinge bars f to allow the door to close, and is returned by the springs m to the locking position. When the springs are arranged to support the door, they are connected by a bar o, Fig. 1. The lower ends of the springs may be coiled.
