Abstract
16,188. Gee, W. J., and Hydraulic Separating and Grading Co. July 13. India-rubber and like springs. -Relates to elastic buffers for the stationary spindles of centrifugal machines, or for the bearings of rotating spindles, and consists in providing means for compressing the buffer radially, independently of the load. The rubber or like buffer g supports the bearing b, partly by frictional contact and partly by means of a flange n, and is compressed radially by a conical sleeve h, which is drawn into a casing i by a nut k. The sleeve h has a number of alternate slits extending from each end to points near the other end. The frictional contact between the buffer g and the bearing b is on a cylindrical or prismatic surface, and, if the flange n and supporting- ring o are dispensed with, the contacting surfaces may be grooved &c. to increase the friction. The end surfaces of the buffer and the corresponding surfaces of the parts n, o may be curved so as to allow relative movement about the centre of oscillation of the spindle without compressing the buffer.
