Abstract

14,432. Siemens-Schuckertwerke. June 17, 1910, [Convention date]. Regulation, automatic systerms and apparatus for.-Relates to automatic regulators for electric circuits, of the type in which an auxiliary motor or the equivalent is employed, the motor being controlled by a relay. As applied to the regulation of the voltage of a generator a, Fig. 1, by varying the resistance c in series with its field magnet b, the motor e that drives the resistance arm d is driven at a high speed, and has its circuit broken just before the arm arrives at its correct position. The inertia of the moving parts carries the arm through the remaining distance. Under the influence of a voltage relay f, an arm i on the armature g contacts with a stop h or t, according as the terminal voltage of the machine a is high or low. The motor e geared to the arm d is thus driven in one direction or the other to modify suitably the field b. A pinion n on the resistance arm is geared to the lower of two reversed levers r, p, separated by a roller q, the upper lever r carrying a dash-pot m. The piston l of the dash-pot is connected by a plate spring k with the armature g, and the position of the spacing-roller q is so adjusted by a handscrew s that the arm i leaves its stop h or t just before the arm d reaches the position in which the field b is sufficiently modified to compensate for the abnormal voltage. This position is reached when the parts come to rest. In a modification, the stops h, t are mounted vertically on a frame, which is attached at its upper end to a spring and at its lower end to the piston l. In this case, the arm i oscillates about a mean horizontal position between the stops.
