Inkstands.-An inkstand, constructed so that a penholder may be retained therein without being inserted in the ink, comprises a cylindrical reservoir 1, to the base of which is attached a cylindrical casing 6 having a number of vertical slits 7 for the inflow of ink, a cover 2 having upper and lower extensions 4<1>, 4, the lower of which passes into the casing 6, and a plate 8 and cushion 9 mounted on a spring 10 in the casing 6. The pen is dipped into the ink by a downward pressure on the cushion 9, which is subsequently restored to its normal position by the spring 10, any ink which may have been sucked upon the cushion flowing back into the reservoir through grooves 5 at the bottom of the extension 4.
