Abstract
13,021. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. May 30. Resistances consisting of pure graphite of specific gravity about 2À27, applicable as incandescing bodies in furnaces and other apparatus, are made by the process described in Specification 19,398/06, or modifications of that process. The specific resistance of such graphite is À0006-À001 ohm per c.c. at 20‹ C., and is little different at a high temperature. Graphite of this density, or any other pure graphite, is made into form with a binder, which preferably comprises that part of pitch soluble in benzol and becoming liquid at about 180‹ C. The bodies when carbonized may be used but preferably are heated to 3000-4000‹ C. to convert the binder into dense graphite, and may optionally be flashed in a hydrocarbon and again heated to convert the coating into dense graphite. Specification 20,809/04, [Class 39, Electric lamps &c.], is referred to.
