Abstract
12,934. Crabtree, W. S. May 30. Protractors.-Apparatus for use in testing the pitch or for setting-out the teeth of gear wheels consists of a plate on which are inscribed lines giving the height above and below the pitch circle of the top and bottom of the teeth and the clearance. The plate is applied at the intersection of a tooth edge and the pitch circle, as shown in Fig. 5, wherein the pitch is ' 2.' To facilitate use a projection may be furnished on the plate for application to the tooth, and a scale may be fitted with a clamp to engage a slot on the plate to show the heights. Different methods of pitch measurement may be employed, and several ranges of rulings corresponding to the different methods may be provided on one plate.
