Abstract

12,818. Starley, W. May 29. Pivot adjustments for the wind-screens of motor - vehicles &c. In joints of the kind in which a trunnion or pivot member on one joint part is clamped by a pair of sliding friction blocks carried in a casing on the other joint part, the blocks are arranged on the same side of the axis of the joint and are adapted to be drawn towards or away from one another into or out of contact with a concentric friction surface formed or provided on the trunnion or pivot member. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the screw 3 is mounted on a pivot pin 13 carried in lugs 9 of a bracket 8 fixed to the dash 7. A plate 11 having a concentric lower surface 14 and fixed to the screen by a bolt 12, works between the lugs 9, and is clamped by the blocks 15 slidably mounted in a non-circular recess 8<a> in the bracket 8 and actuated preferably by a bolt 16 passing freely through one block and screwing into the other and operated by an integral handle 17. A collar 18 on the bolt bears against the loose block. For folding screens requiring wider limits of adjustment, the concentric surface 14 is provided by a circular boss 19, Fig. 4, forming the pivot of the joint and clamped by the blocks 15 as before.
