Clips, sheet-metal.-A clip suitable for use as a paper-fastener comprises two metallic members A, B, Fig. 1, to one A of which, by a particular formation, a spring buckling action is imparted of such a character that, on the member A being deflected in one direction, the free ends of the two members are caused to close on each other, Fig. 1, while on the member A being deflected in the other direction, the free ends separate and remain apart, Fig. 3, so as to permit the insertion of leaves, papers, etc. The treatment by which the buckling effect is obtained consists in placing the member A on a concave die and striking it so as to produce a domed portion E; the member is then reversed and struck at the point E on the other side. In order to open the clip from the closed position, Fig. 1, it is only necessary to press on the domed portion E; to close it again, the free ends must be pressed together. The two members A, B may be formed from a single strip, either by bending the strip upon itself or by stamping out a tongue from the strip. The free end of one or both of the members may be constructed to form a pointer, or the connected ends of the clip may be provided with indicating numerals.
