Abstract

10,564. Heide, H. C., [Knowlton Bros.]. May 1. Compound paper; fancy paper; paper, treating mechanically; apparatus for treating with liquids and gases. - A paper, paper-board, or like material is given an artistic surface having a ' wild ' or mottled appearance by spraying the web 2, Fig. 2, on the wire-cloth 3 with liquid under pressure so as to form irregular and uneven depressions in the surface. The web 2, Figs. 5 and 6, is combined with another web 9, from a cylinder machine 5, and united to it in the usual manner. The liquid, which may be coloured, is supplied to a perforated pipe 19, Fig. 3, suspended by pivoted links 20 transversely above the machine 1, the pipe being reciprocated by an adjustable crank and connecting-rod 25, 26 operated from gearing on the main machine. The second web may be of a different colour or shade from the first, which may be perforated in places 32 by the spray so as to show the second web therethrough.
