Abstract

8543. Comrie, J. O. Jan. 28. Bottles and jars, washing. -Machines for brushing bottles, jars, &c. of the type in which the vessels while moving in a circular path are cleaned externally by a central rotary brush and internally by rotary brushes projecting thereinto, are constructed so that the internal brushes automatically cease to rotate at the receiving and discharge points of the machine. The bottles are placed through holes in the carrier 37 over internal brushes 39. A central brush 27 rotating at a relatively high speed, and fixed end brushes 48, clean the exteriors of the bottles during the relatively slow rotation of the carrier. The internal brushes are driven by a crossed belt 45 engaging pulleys 44 on each brush shaft, so that only these pulleys within the arc of contact of the belt are rotated. The internal brushes are thus rendered stationary at the receiving and discharge points where the bottles are placed on and removed by hand.
