8023. Monnot, J. F. March 30. Resistances. - A resistance for heating purposes is enclosed in a sealed casing with a packing of pulverulent plaster of paris. The resistance may be on a refractory support o f large heat-storing capacitv. In the form shown, a german-silver wire is coiled on a n earthenware tube 1 in a metal case 6, both tube and case being filled with the plaster and heated by passing current through the coil to remove air and moisture; sealing-material, such as putty or plaster of paris, alone or mixed with paraffin or wax, is then inserted and covered bv a cap 9, connecting-wires 3, 4 to the ends and 5 to an intermediate point of the coil pass through the tube and cap.
