Abstract
6952. Kowastch, A. March 20. Blasting.-Consists in making or completing the explosive charge in the bore-hole after the hole has been plugged, by the introduction of explosive constituents from outside, the charge being exploded subsequently. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a cartridge 21 is covered by tamping-material 9 and confined by a plug or plugs 3, 15, provided with a locking-bolt 5 and with three tubular passages. One passage 7 serves for the admission of explosive constituents into the cartridge, another 8 for the escape of air, and the third for holding a fuse 6. Explosive constituents in the cartridge before insertion in the bore-hole may be solid, but explosive constituents to be introduced after the hole is tamped are liquids, gases, or powders in suspension in liquids or gases, and they are introduced from a receptacle 17 by their own pressure as in the case of liquid air, or by means of a pump 22. In one example, the explosive mixture consists of nitrobenzene and nitric acid, and, in another example, of carbonaceous material saturated with liquid air.
