6393. Wetzler, B. March 14. Cartridge-loading machines.-Relates to sorting and feeding devices for cartridge cases and projectiles. According to the invention, the cartridge cases are taken from a receptacle 5, Figs. 1 and 3, and placed on a plate 6 and alined in grooves 8 by a sweep of the hand; the plate 6 is then tilted about a pivot 7 and the cases fall down glass tubes 4 over teeth 15, Fig. 5, of a comb 16, at the top of a row of hoppers 13. Cases not properly alined on the table 6 are swept away by the hand or thrown aside by guards 10, 11 and fall back into the receptacle 5. A plate 17 provided with recesses IS with or without a central projection 18<1> catches the mouths of the cases that come month forwards but holds away those that come base forwards; the mouths of the latter therefore rest in part over the back 16 of the comb. The comb 16 is now shifted so that the gaps of the comb are substituted for the teeth 15, and the cases thus released fall down the hoppers 13 base first, and into sleeves 25, wherein they are held by a hooked lever 29; to accelerate the fall of the cases, and to hold the next row of cases in position temporarily, a bridge 35 provided with push-pins 36 and with spring grips 40 is depressed simultaneously. Finally the sleeves 25 mounted on a bridge 22 are lowered and the levers 29 deflected by a fixed bar 48 to permit the cases to fall on to the work-table 2; the parts are then returned to the original position. The comb 16 and the bridges 22, 35 are worked by cams 26, 20, 33 and spring- pressed levers and slides. A similar mechanism for supplying the projectiles is placed on the other side of the machine; it differs only in that they are not led to the work-table but to sleeves 149, Fig. 1. which are then lowered over the mouths of the powder-charged cases.
