Carrier bands.-In a chamber in which hay &c. is carried up and down in separate compartments by endless conveyers arranged vertically or nearly so, an horizontal conveyer takes the dried material from the final conveyer and delivers it back to the feed-aperture or the first conveyer. Revolving shafts b, b<1> arranged in horizontal planes support the conveyers, which are driven from a single shaft and are provided with hooks or fingers passing over fixed partitions d. Between the conveyers at the bottom, rotary transfer plates are arranged, such that the fingers on the conveyers may pass through them. A heater i and fan k draw warm air through in the opposite direction to that of the material. An horizontal conveyer n is arranged above the vertical conveyers, so that it carries the material back to the first of these. By means of a sliding guard x or by shifting the shaft n<1> of the horizontal conveyer, the material may be discharged through a shoot h. Intermediate means may be provided to transfer the material from the vertical to the horizontal convever. At the bottom of the casing which may have a perforated false bottom, a band conveyer removes fallen waste material.
