Abstract

5678. Hannigan, T. March 7. Chain, axle, and like distance members or adjusters.-Comprises belt-tensioning means for motor-cycles, in which the belt can be adjusted while the machine is in motion without affecting the tension of the pedalling chain. The bottom-bracket spindle, to which the pedal cranks are fixed, is mounted in an eccentric bush B which can be rotated by a hand-lever A. The back axle J is free to slide in the forks of the machine and is connected to the bottombracket spindle by a pair of rods E, one on each side of the cycle, so that when the lever is operated the spindle and axle move together and the belt is adjusted. The invention may be used with a variable pulley or merely to take up the stretch of the belt.
