Abstract

3715. Buffet, H. Feb. 14. Sound - boxes; styli; resonators. - The diaphragm in a talking-machine sound-box is replaced by a conical or round mass A of wood or metal, such as ash, cedar, and pine, or silver, bronze, and brass, or even glass, bone, and ivory, which is provided with a stylus B. The mass weighs up to about 225 grammes, and may be held by the hand or be traversed over the record from an horizontally-supported bar D. A sounding-board F may also be used to reinforce the sound reproduction. Small wings E of nickel may be added to the mass to reduce the grating sound of the stylus on the record.
