Abstract
4176. Klenk, H., and Krebs, H. Feb. 19. <*> Phonographs &c.-A phonograph or gramophone having mechanism 1, record 2, sound-box 4, tonearm 5, and trumpet 7, is enclosed in a casing provided with sounding-boards 8, 8<a> on the latter of which is mounted a series of strings 11, which are directly or indirectly vibrated by the sound waves issuing from the trumpet 7. The strings are connected to a block 10, carried over a bridge 12, and secured to hooks 13. The trumpet 7 may be connected by a strut 19 with the bridge 12, as shown in Fig. 5, to vibrate the strings directly. Doors 15, 16 are provided for the soundboard and strings, and a hinged flap 17 for access to the phonograph. The strings may be struck separately by hand or by a pianoforte action from keys 21 to reinforce the sound of the phonograph. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the phonograph is combined with a zither.
