Packing, adjusting.- The nuts A of the bolts E for an engine, pump, or other stuffing - box gland are formed hollow to receive springs B, the tension of which adjusts the packing. The springs B bear on washers D. Rotation of the nuts A with respect to the washers D may be prevented by set screws G, or by other means, in order to lock the nuts.
