The shuttle is threaded by drawing the weft down the slots d, d<1> until it enters holes e, e<1>, and then, by a further motion, causing the weft to slide along the slot d<2> and into a slot d<3> between the lug i and the body of the shuttle. The loose end of the weft is then withdrawn by the operator's finger, so that it projects from the hole f.
