Abstract

2674. Taylor, C., and Taylor, G. B. Feb. 2. Chucks.-Chuck jaws having the gripping- surfaces provided with definite teeth, as described in Specification 25,830/09, are provided with a modified gripping-surface to resist torsional and axial motion of the work. The gripping-surface a, Fig. 1, of the jaw is grooved transversely at i to form definite flat-topped teeth d and longitudinally at j, Fig. 3, to form the axial teeth d, the arrangement being such that the axial teeth are preferably unbroken and are separately formed and distinct teeth from the transverse or inclined teeth, and that only a few teeth are formed separated by large hollows. Various other forms of gripping-surfaces are shown. Fig. 15 shows a gripping-surface at the bore of the chuck, and in this the surfaces of the teeth d at the 'ends d<3> are flattened or wider to prevent extra biting at the ends due to the working operations.
