Abstract

1598. Ward, T. W., and Lash, H. W. Jan. 21. Baling-presses.-A press of the kind described in Specification 23,633/94, [Class 83, Metals, Cutting &c.], for bundling light metallic scrap comprises an hydraulic press, comprising compound rams and cylinders, and a compression chamber provided with a movable sliding cover actuated by an hydraulic ram. Fig. 1 shows the hydraulic cylinder b, within which is a movable cylinder l containing a ram f<1>. This carries a plunger f working in the chamber d, which is fitted with a sliding cover g actuated by the ram i shown in Fig. 2. The sliding cover g, Figs. 1 and 3, is formed with a longitudinal rectangular cavity j inclined on its horizontal face. Into this cavity is fitted a wedge slide k, slightly shorter than the cavity and so arranged that, when the cover is forced into position by the ram, the wedge slide k jams down tightly into position. A telescopic supply tube n is fitted to the cylinder l, and the whole device is operated by the system of valves p, q.
