[Addition to 25,433/08.] Acetic anhydride is produced by the action of chlorine upon a mixture of a salt or salts of acetic acid with sulphur and a distributing- agent, such as acetic anhydride, the temperature being allowed to rise up to 40‹ or 50‹ C. The anhydride, together with that used as distributing-agent, is obtained by distillation in vacuo.
