Abstract
29,570. Lake, H. W., [Automatic Envelope Sealing and Stamping Machine Co.]. Dec. 20. Damping-machines. - In machines for closing envelopes and affixing postage stamps or labels, the envelopes or the like are fed along a table 5, Fig. 3, by two pairs of rollers 27, 28 and 18, 98, between which the stamps are affixed by a plunger working behind a plate 160<1>, and the flaps are moistened by a conical roller 58. The flaps are closed by rollers 77, 78, 88, 89. The machine is operated by a motor 116. The face of the envelope, where t h e stamp is to be affixed, is moistened by a pad in a pivoted holder. Water is supplied to the pad from a reservoir 46. After a sufficient portion of the envelope has been moistened, the pad is raised by the envelope contacting with an arm 48. A guide 52 deflects the flap into contact with the moistening - roller 58, against which it is pressed by a roller 63, Fig. 4. Water is transferred from a tank 55 to the roller 58 by a conical roller 60. The tank is supported by an arm 56 clamped to the machine frame by a screw 57.
