Abstract
29,357. Rees, E. S. G. Dec. 17. Separators for gaseous substances.-A centrifugal ejector pump applicable for purifying gases comprises an impeller which discharges water and entrained gas into a rotary casing formed integral with the impeller where the separation of liquid, gas, and solid impurities is effected. An impeller a, which may be of the kind described in Specification 4810/06, [Class 110, Rotary engines &c.], receives water through an outlet b from a suction pipe c, and discharges it through a number of constricted nozzles d into a series of ducts e leading to a water-sealed rotary tank g. The streams of water in the ducts c draw gas from a space j through perforations i<0> in pipes i. Means may be provided for spraying the water and for facilitating the entraining of the gas as described in Specifications 22,490/06, [Class 110, Rotary engines &c.], and 15,084/09, and 21,555/09, [both in Class 110 (i), Centrifugal fans &c.]. A fan may be provided to increase the pressure of the entering gas, or the gas may be delivered into the space j by a separate blower. The rotary tank g discharges (1) the entrained gas through a hollow shaft k .to a pipe l, (2) the water through ducts m, fixed passages n, and a pipe p to the source of supply, and (3) solid matter through a constricted annular outlet or a series of nozzles g<0> into a fixed casing q, the outlet of which is controlled by a valve r. In a modification, the water is discharged into the inlet of a second impeller arranged on the same shaft. A relief pipe may be fitted to the tank g, its inner end being uncovered by the water when the pressure is excessive.
