Driving - arrangements for screw propellers; rudders; steering-gear.-Means are provided for the adaptation of sailing and other vessels for screw propulsion. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the horizontal member a is fixed to the vessel by means of the forked end e and the plate d. The lower horizontal member b is fixed to the keel, and the new stern-post g is supported by these two members. The propeller rotates in the space. between the two stern-posts, the rudder n being mounted on the new stern-post in the usual way. In the case of a vessel with a very raking stern-post, an additional vertical post may be added to support the end of the stern-tube. In the form shown in Fig. 4, a modification for a vessel with a short counter is shown. The rudder n is detached from the rudder head f, and is geared to it by spur-wheels t, n. In another modification, shown in plan in Fig. 7, the connexion is made by two short links x, y and levers j, z.
