Abstract

28,502. Westberg, K. R. Dec. 7. Cow-milkers. - Milking is performed by two presses, each consisting of a stationary plate 23, 24, Fig. 7, and a series of consecutively moving slats 18, 19, the corresponding slats in the two presses being rigidly connected by lateral strips 20 forming open frames. The stationary plates are mounted upon supports 25, 28, and those for the rear press surround the front press. The supports are carried in guides 30, 29 on the casing 1, and are connected by cross-bars 32, 31. On these cross-bars are a tube 36 and rod 33, each screwed at the end to engage hand-wheels 37, 35. These wheels are prevented from moving axially by a pin and circumferential groove on the boss, and are turned to adjust the plates 23, 24. The movement of the rear plate is limited by a pin 41. The strips 20 may be slotted, screws 26 passing through the slots, or they may be replaced by rods passing through apertures in the plate 24. Each of the slats 18 is attached to a rod 10, Fig. 2, which enters the casing 1 and carries a frame 8 moving on guides 9 and having camsurfaces in contact with a crank-pin 5, which is provided with a roller 7, ball bearings, or a similar device. The crank-pins are mounted on a central shaft 6, and the upper pin may be integral with a disk 4 or the like having an external groove in which fit balls running in a similar groove in a fixed ring 2. The pins have an angular displacement to give a stripping action on the teats. An alternative operating-mechanism consists of crank-pins each mounted on a disk &c., which is supported on ball bearings in or around a fixed ring. Each disk has an overhanging toothed ring engaging with a pinion on a vertical driving-shaft. When the casing is opened, the shaft may be moved axially to disengage the pinions from the toothed rings, which may then be separately adjusted.
