Abstract

27,941. Allesoe, H., Jensen, J. M., and Schou, C. Dec. 1. Cans, washing. - Relates to apparatus for cleaning milk-cans &c. of the type in which brushes mounted on a collapsible frame are passed into the can and then expanded to contact with the interior thereof, and consists in supporting the collapsible frames by arms or the like which are drawn into the hollow spindle of the apparatus to collapse the frames in such a manner that the brushes are not moved lengthways in relation to the spindle, and in means for securing the brushing-apparatus to the can. Fig. 1 shows one construction in which the brush frames g are moved along spring guides c by cords attached to a bar m passing through the hollow driving-spindle. The bar is raised to collapse the brushes by a lever p passing through a slot in the hand-crank, and is retained in the raised position by a cotter. A plate c, carrying the bearing for the operating- shaft, is fixed to the top of the can by a latch d. The halves of the brush frame are not in alinement, and are arranged so that they normally overlap at the lower end, thus applying two sets of bristles to the centre of the base of the can In a modified construction, the rod m is spring-mounted, and the brush frames are attached thereto by curved links passing through slots in the driving-sleeve. The rod m is raised by a handle, and is provided with a retaining-ratchet engaged by a pawl on the hand-crank. The brush frames in each case are formed of U-iron, and the central portions of the bristles are bent into the channel and secured by a metal bar fitting therein, thus allowing both ends of the bristles to engage the can. Fig. 8 shows a modified method of securing the apparatus to the can. The plate c carries three studs x engaged by slotted levers pivoted to a rotary plate 2, which is retained in any desired position by the ratchet y engaging the hand-lever. By rotating the plate, the hooked outer ends of the levers are caused to grip or disengage the rim of the can.
