Switches, quick-action; spring-straining arrangements.-A quick make and a quick break are imparted to the contact member K by means of a flexible spring-lever A, attached at one end to the contact member, and passing between two fulcrums G, H, the other end being operated by a slotted crank E attached to a handle L. In the ' off ' position, Fig. 4, a pivoted latch L<1> holds against an abutment B' on the pivoted arm B carrying the contact member. When the handle is raised, the end of the flexible lever is also raised by means of the crank. The other end tends to force the contact member downwards into its clips M, the action not taking place until the latch has been canted to the left by an extension 0 of the crank E. In opening the switch, the flexible lever is bent downwards and has only to overcome the friction of the contactclips. A second latch may be added. An abutment P assists a weight or spring bias of a stirrup L to restore the first-mentioned latch to its holding position. Switch mechanism, interlocking with lids.- The switch handle is formed to engage a pin on the lid of the box so as to prevent the lid from being opened when the switch is ' on.'
