Abstract

24,863. Marks, E. C. R., [Barbour, J. A.]. Oct. 26. Pinch cocks; casings.-A pinch-cock for fluids comprises an elastic liner 4 enclosed within a metal casing 1 divided longitudinally into two parts, the part 2 forming a cover by means of which the liner can be readily removed and replaced. The ends of the liner and casing are coned at 7; 8 and flanged at 5, as shown, so that tight joints are formed by the longitudinal expansion of the liner when the cover is applied. The liner is initially formed compressed, as shown at 11, 12, and bulged at the sides, and the casing is similarly formed; a block 14 connected to a screw 15 effects the opening and closing of the valve, and a shoulder 16 on the screw abutting on the boss 17 prevents the rupture of the liner by excessive squeezing. According to the Provisional Specification, this device is applicable to taps, stoppers, &c. used in pipes, nozzles, &c. for controlling the flow of gas, water, steam, sand, or other fluids or semiiiuids.
