The column l8 has counterseated therein a gas- Figure 2 is a sectional View on the line 2- 2 of ket 32 through which operates the reduced por- Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows. tion 21 of the stem of the valve and in this way Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of the column i8 is rendered leak-proof. Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows. The capping head Ilhas detachably connected 55 with its cylindrical wall 19 an outside bonnet 33 accommodating the bonnet 2| which is'interiorly thereof.
The outside bonnet 33 at the top thereof has a central clearance for an operating wrench in the form of a hand crank or key 34 which is adapted for separable engagement with a turning lug formation previously indicated at which has the nut 29 counterseated therein.
The Wall [9 has a vent 35 for emitting overflow oil from the well 20 or the discharge of fluid which may have seeped into this well from within the body ll] of the faucet or spigot.
It should be apparent from the foregoing and Figure 1 of the drawing that the valve proper in association with the capping head I! and ,bonnets 2| and 33 respectively can be removed from the body l0 as a unit or in assembled condition.
The capping head H has on the cylindrical wall l9 exteriorly thereof an annular flange 36 which coacts with a gasket 31 superimposed upon the crown 16 to effect a fluid tight joint between the said capping head I! and the crown,
In the operation of the spigot or faucet the valve proper has movement to the seat therefor within the body I 0 in a direct vertical course and such valve proper by reason of the stem engagement in the guideway 23 in the column is cannot rotate when approaching or leaving its seat, therefore there is no grinding of the washer 26 upon the seat in the operation of the valve proper. The fluid tight joints are assured between the parts associated with the valve proper and the body III of the. spigot or faucet.
The parts of the construction constituting the invention are readily separable from each other with dispatch so that easy repairs can be made or new parts instituted;
What is claimed is:
v 1. In a faucet having a closure valve, a capping head fitting said faucetand forming an outer cylindrical Wall and an inner guide column spaced from said wall, the said column having a guideway therein, a stem on said valve and fitting the guideway in said column for holding the valve movable and against rotation when in operation, an inner bonnet separably fitting the capping head and having connection with said stem for moving the valve on adjustment of said bonnet, and an outer bonnet fitting said capping head, the said capping head having a vent opening into the space between the column and said.
