Abstract

22,615. Hof, H. K., and Rinck, B. M. Sept. 29. Alkaline-earth lead chlorides; white lead; lead chromate; magnesium sulphate. - Impure litharge, lead ash, lead fumes, or lead-chamber slag is treated with concentrated alkaline-earth chloride lyes at boiling temperature, whereby a pure double chloride of lead and the alkalineearth metal is obtained in a crystalline form on cooling. From this compound, white lead and lead chromate can be obtained by treatment with carbon dioxide and alkali chromate respectively. Magnesium and calcium - chloride lyes, and especially the lyes resulting from the potassiumchloride and ammonia soda manufacture are stated to be suitable for use. When the raw material contains lead sulphate, magnesium sulphate can be recovered as a by-product.
