Description

CHUNG YU WANG, OF HANKOW, GHINA.
' STARRING MIXTURE FOR ANTIMONY-SMELTING.
ii 2%., tea.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHUNG YU WANG, a citizen of China, and a resident of Hankow, China, have invented anew and Improved Starring Mixture for Antimony-Smelting, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a starring mixture, slag, or couverture used in the refining of antimony.
An object of the invention'is to produce a slag or starring mixture which does not contain any antimony compound.
Another object of the invention is to utilize a byproduct of the refining of antimony in my starring mixture, which byproduct is at present discarded as useless.
The composition of an ordinary. starring mixture, slag or couverture for producing the fernlike structure or stars on the surface of the antimony regulus consists of eithera mixture of antimony trioxid and carbonate of sodium, or a mixture of antimony sulfid and potassium carbonate, or a mixture of antimony tetroxid or antimony trioxid, antimony sulfid, carbonate of sodium and car- 'bon. In all these mixtures, it will be noted, an antimony compound is employed.
In my starring mixture I utilize iron sulfid resulting from the precipitation process of antimony smelting, which byproduct is generally discarded as useless. This byproduct takes theplace of an antimony com- Specification of Letters Patent.

pound in my starring mixture. I may use in connection with the ironsulfid any suitable alkali compound, but preferably potassium carbonate is used. This starring mixture when used with refined antimony regulus,- resulting from whatsoever process, will produce a fernlike structure or stars on thesurface of the slabof refined antimony regulus While it is cooling.
' The proportions of the mixture are as follows: Nine to fourteen parts of iron sulfid are to be mixed with eight parts 0f.an alkali salt, and preferably ten parts of iron sulfid are mixed with eight parts of potassium carbonate. In place of carbonate, potassium chlorate may be used.
I claim:
1 A starring mixture for antimony smelting, containing iron sulfid resulting from the precipitation processof antimony smelting and an alkali metal carbonate 2. A starring mixture for antimony smelting, composed of iron sulfid and an alkali metal carbonate.
3. A starring mixture for antimony smelting, composed of iron sulfid and potas sium carbonate.
4. A starring mixture for antimony smelting, composed of iron-sulfid resulting from the precipitation process of antimony smelting and potassium carbonate.
