Abstract

22,022. Herreshoff, J. B. F. Sept. 22. Charging; charges, agitating.- Relates to the construction of hollow rotary rabbles for roasting-furnaces with superposed floors, to means for attaching teeth to the rabble arms, and to means for driving the orefeeding mechanism. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a sleeve J is rigidly connected to the rabble shaft H by flanges J<1>, H<2>, and each rabble arm L is connected to a flange on the sleeve J. This flange is formed with a pair of apertures registering with channels L', L<3>, Figs. 2 and 5, in the rabble arm and communicating, the one with the outer chambers, and the other with the central shaft. This construction opposes a minimum of friction to the passage of the cooling-fluid. Flanges L<5>, Fig. 5, are formed on the rabble arms for receiving the hooks of removable sections carrying the teeth P, and the sections are secured in place by bolts R. At the upper end, the shaft is closed by a plug H\ and the sleeve is provided with gearing for driving the screw for feeding ore. The lowermost rabble arm may be constructed without means for circulating air. In starting the operation, air passes through passages S surmounted by caps T, these passages being afterwards sealed by the descending ore.
