21,821. Thompson, W. P., [Soc. Freno Giusti]. Sept. 20. Rotary disk valves; locking.-Relates to a rotary disk valve for distributing compressed air &c., more particularly for use in connexion with the svstem of brakes for vehicles described in Specification 26,137/09, [Class 103(i), Brakes &c.]. A pair of inlet ports 4, 5 in the rotary disk valve 3 are adapted to be moved into and out of register with a pair of ports 9, 10 leading to the cylinders operating the brakes, and pairs of ports 13, 14 leading to the atmosphere and exhaust ports 15, 16 connected with the cylinders in the valve seating are connected by passages 11, 12 in the valve. One of the inlet ports 5 has a tapering extension 17, so that the pressure fluid may be applied gradually. The ports 13, 14 are also provided with similar extensions. The operating-handle for moving the disk 3 is provided with two pairs of stops, one pair C, C<1> to engage with a rod 30 when it is depressed by hand against a spring; in this position, the tapering portions of the inlet and discharge ports are uncovered. The pair D, D<1> engage with the handle itself in cases of emergency, the ports being then fully open.
