Abstract
19,974. Schumann, A. Aug. 26. Theatrical appliances.-An apparatus for providing spectacular exhibitions for circuses, variety theatres, &c., comprises a large top a adapted to be set in rotation by horses h, or other animals, or by cyclists, harnessed to supports l external to the top. The top is centrally supported by a shackle f and rope g, the rope being relaxed when the top is spinning at such a speed as to become self-supporting. Precessional effects may be produced by giving lateral thrusts to the top, in which case, the animals or cyclists may change their positions in accordance with the disturbances, or, the harness may yield to enable them to retain their positions on the moving platform.
