Abstract

19,349. Pelterie, R. Esnault-. Aug. 17, 1909, [Convention date]. [Addition to 18,604/10.] Planes, construction of; steering. - Planes constructed of rigid main ribs and flexible auxiliary ribs, as described in the parent Specification, are provided with means whereby the flexible ribs may be curved for varying the sustaining-surface of the plane. Figs. 2 and 4 show lateral cross-sectional views of planes having rigid main ribs b and flexible ribs e. As shown in Fig. 2, the ribs e are brought from the positior of least curvature by means of cords k passing over pulleys l. The elasticity of the ribs e causes them to return to their original position when the pull on the cords is relaxed. As shown in Fig. 4, in which the ribs e normally assume their maximum curvature, a sliding rod m operates bell-crank levers o, which press on the ribs e. The ribs e may be brought back by their own elasticity, by springs, or by the pressure of the air under the surface
