Abstract
19,261. Blondin, J. A. Aug. 16. Aerial machines without aerostats; adapted to travel also on land; shock of landing, deadening.-In a flying-machine having landing- skids and front and rear wheels, the front wheels are adjustable vertically relatively to the skids, so that the machine can rest on the wheels at starting. The skid member f is built up of triangular trussed beams extending longitudinally. of the machine, and carries the body F to which are secured the main supporting-planes A, B. At the rear of the skid is a supplemental supporting-plane M, and a steering-wheel 46 upon the post of the rudder H; and towards the front is a pair of wheels 25 carried by a triangular frame 26 which can be moved vertically. The frame is connected to the skid by pivoted links 27, and the upper end is connected to a shaft 28 passing through braces 30, 31 within the body F. The upper end of the shaft 28 is formed with a screw-thread on which is mounted a hand-wheel 33. At starting, the frame 26 is depressed so that the wheels 25 raise the skids off the ground and elevate the forward end of the machine. The wheels are retracted during the flight, so that the machine alights on the skids. Steering.-The machine is provided with a front elevator G, and a rear rudder H, which is located below the level of the centre of gravity of the machine. According to the Provisional Specification, the plane M may be adjustable.
