Abstract
19,142. Schwalbe, C. G. Aug. 14, 1909, [Convention date]. Pulp, preparation of. - In the treatment of vegetable fibres with sulphite for obtaining cellulose, an acid, in aqueous solution, as an acid salt, or as a gas, in quantity corresponding to half the equivalent of the amount of sulphite used, is added to the solution of neutral sulphite or during the boiling process. Straw and wood may be boiled with a 5 per cent solution of 2 parts of sodium sulphite and 1 part of sodium bisulphite, or they may be impregnated with a 10 per cent solution of sodium sulphite, and, after removing the liquor, steamed in an atmosphere of carbon dioxide.
