Abstract
18,765. Western, C. M. Aug. 9. Billiards, teaching - appliances for.-A set of apparatus for teaching billiards consists of an angle-measurer, Fig. 2, a ' spotter,' Fig. 4, a sighting-pin, Fig. 4<a>, a path-marker, Fig. 5, and a projecting-shoot, Fig. 6. The anglemeasurer, Fig. 2, consists of six hinged bars with sliding scales at d, e, a weight u with an arm v carrying a pin for entering a hole w and a cord x. If the arm 2 coincides with the direction of the cue ball before impact, the arm 1 and cord x show the direction of the object ball and one ball after impact respectively. The ' spotter,' Fig. 4, consists of jaws f, g for placing against a ball which is afterwards replaced by a washer h. A chalk mark made in the centre of the hole shows where the ball stood. The path marker, Fig. 5, consists of a bar k carrying hinged pins m and legs l. The path of the ball n is shown by the displaced pins m<1>. The projecting-shoot, Fig. 6, consists of a sloping track n with a leg o, handle s, sight r, and several parallel sighting-cords q.
