Abstract

18,058. Weir, W. July 29. Movable - abutment type; packing drums, vanes, abutments, etc.; plant.-Pumps suitable for use in condenser systems comprise gearwheels 3, 4, Fig. 2, arranged in a casing 7. The suction chamber 16 is provided with a bridle 18 fitting the gear - wheels circumferentially and extending over the ends as shown in dotted lines. The casing 7 is filled with water, which acts as a seal for the suction chamber and the bearings of the gear-wheels. For use as a dry air-pump, additional shrouds 26, 27, Fig. 3, are arranged so that the bottom of the casing is isolated from the discharge chamber 31. In this modification, the sealing - water passes through a cooler 32 and is passed into the suction chamber 34 through a pipe 33. An adjustable by-pass 37 may be provided so that a proportion of the water may return to the discharge side of the pump without passing through the cooler. The suction of the pump may be increased by the action of a steam-jet. Wet and dry air-pumps are shown arranged in the same casing. In this case, double-helical teeth are provided. The dry pump may be of the centrifugal type.
